How did Heidi turn out like this? From birth, she was unusual- so was it a result of her mutation? Her parents were rather well-off, gave her a decent amount of attention, and gave her everything they could. But there was still something... off, about their daughter; people were uncomfortable around her, tutors assigned to her specifically would quit within a week of taking on the job, and she'd often be isolated by her peers. Yet, she thought none of this was unfair, she kept a hollow smile throughout it all- not because she was forcing herself to push through it all but because, in reality, she felt nothing towards it all.
How is it to feel hollow? It's unthinkable for anyone who has felt anything. She wasn't exhausted, nor were her emotions pushed to extremes and worn out, rather she never had the capacity to feel to begin with. Her body was, by all counts, foreign- moreso than other mutations, she was a whole other beast when it came to identifying. Perhaps it slipped their minds, maybe they just didn't want to think about, but with her body so twisted... it was quite likely that her mind was no different. So indifferent to everything around her, it wasn't like she disliked it- after all, how could you miss a feeling that you've never felt? She thought it normal, to force that uneasy smile and to copy behaviors from everyone around her.
That is, until she felt a spark. It's a fond memory, one from her middle school days, coming across a gruesome scene; her neighborhood often had stray cats wandering around and, well, obviously there would be dangers they weren't ready for. Normally, one would feel pity for a creature struggling to hold onto life, perhaps even a hint of empathy, but, as already displayed, Heidi was an oddity. It took her a second to process yet she had no doubts that what she felt was nothing like what she'd mimic from other people.
Curiosity. Everyone is shielded from death until they were forced to witness the Reaper take hold of a soul, so it's natural that no one was there to witness the birth of this villain. She didn't feel sad for the cat, nor did she want to help it, rather, she felt an overwhelming curiosity towards mortality in that moment; she had heard tales that creatures were so fragile, which extended to humans, so what was the limits of which they could take? She stepped towards the feline, her gaze, which was often peaceful, was now harsh.
She'd press her foot down, the unsettling sounds barely affecting the girl as they quickly fell to a whimper, then to a whisper. It was then Heidi found a new feeling; discontent. Was that it? She knew this was wrong, she should feel bad, but all she felt was disappointment in the result. It stopped breathing so easily. Were all creatures like this? No, there were humans heralded as pseudo-gods, heroes who could strike down the strongest of foes; yet another new feeling birthed, excitement. She had never found something she was passionate about like this.
As years went by, this nagging curiosity and passive discontent did not fade. She managed to continue her façade, unsettling smile and all, but her thoughts became more and more wicked as time went by. Planning elaborate crimes in her mind, wondering if someone could survive a certain kind of treatment, she finally had an idea; she knew of the ability to "share" her visions of her quirk, she had done it once before for a mere moment, which led to the banning of her ever from using it. The person seemed super shaken afterwards and, at the time, she didn't care much for it.
But, along this newfound curiosity, she wondered... what happens if someone is exposed further? This was what Heidi herself considers the birth of 'Insania,' a villainous alter ego hellbent on exploring human limits- both mentally and physically. After this point, she was quick to begin her own little 'experiments,' going into the real world as the villainous entity birthed, her tales quickly spreading throughout small communities. She was addressed as a 'freak of nature,' her inhumane method of fighting being quite the annoyance for anyone trying to mess with her plans. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, of her constant pressure to the communities within Paris.
By that point, she had built a following; she was pretty damn strong, her followers were perfect fodder to throw people off her trail, she cared naught for their safety, only for their convenience. Of course, the French Hero Association wouldn't exactly stand aside as she created her own cult-like organization from the shadows. After a year of activity from her, they finally sent out quite the popular hero from their side- they had evidently done their research, too. He was a hero known for his incredible mental stability- practically her natural born counter! His quirk, to the public, was known simply as 'Order.'
While the name is known, what it does was not. Nor does Heidi really remember what happened during their fight- she knows she immediately went on the offensive then, after she was sure her strike hit, she was suddenly filled with holes. Any normal person? Probably would've died. But she wasn't human at this point. She remembers the pain, the humiliation as her many cultists threw themselves at the enemy as she slid herself out of there. But did she feel distraught? No, she stayed true to her origins; she was curious about this hero's limits. The idea of pushing him to his breaking point was exhilarating. But, she was heavily injured, and managed to stowaway on some ship heading for... well, she didn't quite know.
As she fell into a slumber, she awoke and felt... different. Not in a way that made her stronger, rather, she felt as if she had regressed- it was likely the damage was too much, her body had morphed to repair itself. She looked different, yet she kept that same soulless gaze as she always had. The sound of people unloading cargo made her aware that they had hit land, slipping through the workers, she found herself in Japan- well, she was pretty damn foreign, but she was always a fast learner...
Thus, she kept a low-profile and simply did her best to learn the language, even opening a small pastry shop during her time to earn cash while doing the only non-evil thing she had actually enjoyed. It seemed with the increasing mastery over her quirk, she was slowly opening up to more and more emotions, though part of that progress has been dampened by her recent battle. Now, with the tale of Insania quite distant in Paris' past, she was sure only villain enthusiasts would know her M.O all the way in Japan.
